For example, I really am into fitness and want to be a YouTube influencer in health and wellness, buy and sell real estate, and maybe become a teacher. I'm just lost and can't decide.
Success begins with a definiteness of purpose—with a concise, clear vision of exactly what you want to achieve—because change is triggered by this purpose.
4 Suggested Steps to Discovering and Defining your Goal
Instead of forcing yourself to focus on creating a goal, clearly define what you want your life to look like in 5 years or 3 years.
For Example: “In 3 years, I want to own a house in Chicago (I now live in NJ) and travel throughout Europe before I settle down and get married.”
With that vision of your life in mind, list all of your desired goals that must be reached in order to achieve the vision you have created for your life.
For Example: earn $150,000 (for a down payment); move to Chicago; $10,000 for travel expenses; free time to travel.
Now, ask yourself, “Of all the goals I listed, which is the one thing that, if I succeed in accomplishing it, would make everything else ok.” Whatever it is, focus on THAT—it’s your goal.
For Example: if I earned $170,000 in 2.5 years, I would have enough time to plan my move and save for moving expenses to Chicago and have a down payment for a house there and create a travel fund. Therefore, my goal is to have $170,000 in my possession by (date which is 2.5 years from now).
Finally, and most importantly, ask yourself, “WHY do I want to achieve this goal?” Your answer to this can be incredibly enlightening but also challenging at times (and we all will have them); it is the “WHY” that keeps you going.
