Question: I’ve finally set a goal. I know exactly what I want, but I can’t seem to get started. Something is holding me back.

Each of our actions, habits, behaviors, and perceptions are the result of our paradigm. Bob Proctor, a student of Napoleon Hill, tells us that "to change our behavior, we must change our paradigm." Changing our paradigm directly answers this question: “How do I get going toward where I want to be?” and what matters is that EVERYONE CAN CHANGE THEIR

PARADIGM-TODAY. Doing so will produce results if you commit to it.


Here are Proctor’s steps to changing your paradigm:


  1. With a very realistic lens, ask yourself, “How did I get here—where I am today?”


  2. Then ask, “What results am I getting that I don’t want?”


  3. Then ask, “What specific behavior of mine is causing these unwanted results?”


  1. Now, ask, “What behaviors and habits are directly opposite to those causing unwanted results?”


  1. List these new behaviors and habits. They are your powerhouse. Commit to them, implement them, and watch your life change.


2 More Habits that Absolutely Move you Forward


  1. Every night, read your goal, and write down what you did today that moved you closer toward it and what you can do better tomorrow.


  1. On a card, make a list of 6 actions you absolutely MUST do tomorrow that will move you closer to your goal, assign a time frame in which they must be completed this day, and then when you wake up, DO THEM! Period! If you don’t focus on the actions that push you forward toward your goal, you won’t move!


    Note: If you still struggle to get started every morning, prepare the resources you need to complete the 6 actions you must complete tomorrow.

    For example, if you must call 10 people, have the names and phone numbers on your desk the night before ready for you to dive in.
